Stories from the Street – Extraordinary stories written by ordinary people

Business Plan

Stories from the Street has risen out of the journeys of Steve Lowton as he has walked across Europe and the Middle East. Believing passionately in the power of each and every persons story he is looking to see a publishing house emerge given over to the extraordinary stories of ordinary people; our unique selling point.

Our Rationale.

We are convinced that there is a sea change coming in public opinion in the west. With a growing disenchantment with politicians and the world of big business more and more people are looking for alternative ways for their voice to be heard. So called reality TV will soon run its course and the fascination with celebrity culture cannot last. We believe this is time for such a venture as this, as space is created for the stories that would not normally be heard. Those on the edge of society as well as those in every other sphere.

Our short term target

To raise enough income through the issue of shares to give us a 40 month shot at developing our product and breaking into the publishing world.

Our medium term target

The chief buyer for Waterstones and WH Smiths has said that what we are seeking to do is completely unique. We have an invitation from her to return when we are able to showcase a set of 6 books. This we plan to do in the second half of 2010.

Our long term target

To become a” Lonely Planet” equivalent of story telling that is recognisable the world over.

A template.

We are developing a template of a set of 10 books that can be transposed into any nation in the world. This creates a framework for stories to emerge from a variety of locations including the capital city, the ghettos, the regions and provincial cities of that nation. Every volume will carry the same brand design, creating a desire to be part of a grassroots movement of true life story telling.

Our market.

Our market is primarily those who live in each city or nation.  However, we will also be targeting the tourist market, believing that there is a growing interest in the authentic voice of a place, rather than the make over normally served up within the tourist industry.

Shares in Sfts

Our aim is to fund raise through the sale of shares, raising £100000 to pump prime the compnay until 2012. As of April 2009, 29 shares have been sold. The aim is to have Sfts self financed by the middle of 2012. There will be no return on investment until then, and of course, as with any other investment, no gurantees can be given. This however is an invitation to invest in a prescribed mix of loan capital and ordinary shares costing £1000 each. Currently there are 71 shares still available for purchase.

Our bank and contact details.

Our bank is the Co-operative bank; acc nr 69362860; sort code 08-92-99. Our address is PO Box 318, Thorner. Leeds. LS149EB; Tel 0113320020
